Research Fellow in Mitochondrial Genetics: Join our dynamic group at the University of Birmingham’s College of Life and Environmental Sciences as a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher investigating mitochondrial genetics and function.

Title: Research Fellow Position in Mitochondrial Genetics and Function
Location: Birmingham
Salary: £34,980 to £44,263 with potential progression once in post to £46,974 per annum
Grade: 7
Hours: Full Time
Contract Type: Fixed-Term/Contract

Research Area:

The candidate will mainly use genetic and biochemical approaches to study mitochondrial DNA repair in Drosophila and mammalian cells.

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • PhD (or one close to completion) in biochemistry or molecular biology
  • Basic knowledge of mitochondrial biology
  • Previous experience in cell culture, imaging, and CRISPR screening in mammalian cells is advantageous
  • Experience with bioinformatics analysis and Drosophila work desirable but not necessary

Job Description:

  • Develop research objectives and proposals for own or joint research
  • Contribute to writing bids for research funding
  • Analyze and interpret research findings and results
  • Disseminate research findings for publication, research seminars, etc.
  • Contribute to developing new models, techniques, and methods
  • Undertake management/administration arising from research
  • Contribute to enterprise, business development, and/or public engagement activities of manifest benefit to the College and the University
