Research Fellow in Polymer Chemistry: The University of Birmingham’s School of Chemistry is seeking a dedicated and talented individual for a 24-month research fellow position to support Dr. Ruchi Gupta’s group. The position involves working on the development of photodegradable materials and analytical methods for the capture and measurement of biomarkers in biological fluids.

Salary: £36,024 per annum, Grade 7
Eligibility/Qualification:
- PhD in Chemistry or equivalent qualifications
- Significant experience in organic synthesis of monomers and crosslinkers with photoremovable protecting groups and dyes/fluorophores/probes
- Experience in purification and characterization methods such as HPLC, NMR, IR, and MS
- Expertise in electrospinning
Job Description:
- Undertake research on synthesis and characterization of photodegradable materials for capture and selective release of biomarkers in biological fluids
- Develop analytical methods for measurement of biomarkers and benchmarking against current gold standard methods such as ELISA
- Support research within Gupta group to solve problems, collaborate, and innovate in scientific directions
- Produce regular written and oral reports, attend project and group meetings, give presentations, and write papers for publication in peer-reviewed scientific journals
- Supervise research students, be responsible for equipment installation and maintenance, and train personnel on equipment
- Collect, analyze, and interpret research data through various methods, contribute to developing research objectives, and disseminate research findings
