Research Fellow – UCL: The Division of Biosciences at University College London (UCL) is seeking a passionate and experienced Research Fellow to join the Koch Lab, part of the Medawar Pain and Somatosensory Group. The primary objective of this project is to investigate spinal circuits underlying pain localisation and their role in chronic widespread pain. This is a unique opportunity to advance neuroscience and neurobiology research while contributing to meaningful scientific discovery.
The post is an open-ended contract with initial funding for two years.

Research Area
The successful candidate will work on a project focused on spinal circuits in pain research. The areas of activity include:
- Investigating spinal circuits’ role in pain localisation.
- Exploring how these circuits mature and their plasticity in chronic widespread pain states.
- Using a combination of advanced techniques such as:
- Viral manipulations.
- Transgenic mouse models.
- Electrophysiology.
- Sensorimotor behaviour studies.
- Machine learning for data analysis.

Eligibility/Qualification
Required Qualifications and Skills:
- PhD Qualification:
- PhD (or near completion) in neurobiology or a related field.
- Grade 7 appointment requires an awarded PhD. If in progress, the candidate will be appointed at Grade 6B and promoted upon thesis submission.
- Expertise in at least two or more of the following:
- Circuit dissection.
- Viral manipulations.
- Behavioural analysis.
- Electrophysiology.
Job Description
- Lead the project on spinal circuits and their contribution to pain and plasticity.
- Design, conduct, and manage experiments using cutting-edge techniques.
- Record, analyse, and write up the experimental outcomes.
- Collaborate with team members to advance broader lab projects.
- Contribute to general lab operations, including stock maintenance.
- Supervise research students involved in related projects.
