Research Fellowships in Population Health Innovation
Designation: Postdoctoral and PhD Research Fellows
Research Area:
- Quantification of shifts in burden of HIV incidence and underlying viral load patterns in a full population cohort in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa.
- A cluster randomized controlled trial to increase uptake of HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis among men in Eastern Zimbabwe.
- Use of mobile phone GPS trace data for predicting HIV risk among mobile populations.
Location: Centre for Epidemic Response and Innovation (CERI), School for Data Science and Computational Thinking, Stellenbosch University, South Africa.
Eligibility/Qualification: Postdoctoral Research Fellowships:
- PhD in Biostatistics, Epidemiology, Econometrics, Data Science, Geography, Mathematical Modelling, or a closely related quantitative field.
- Several high-quality publications as a first author.
- PhD must have been obtained within the last 5 years.
PhD Research Fellowships:
- Masters in Biostatistics, Epidemiology, Econometrics, Data Science, Geography, Mathematical Modelling, or a closely related quantitative field.
Job Description: Fellows will engage in cutting-edge research using precision public health approaches and have access to some of the finest longitudinal datasets in Africa. Key responsibilities include:
- Designing and testing interventions to improve population health.
- Working with trans-disciplinary researchers in Epidemiology, Biostatistics, and Geographical Information Systems.
- Hands-on training and mentorship by leading scientists with publications in top journals.
- Utilizing advanced skills in statistics, epidemiology, geography, bioinformatics, econometrics, data science, and mathematical modeling.
