Postdoc in Spain

Research Positions (PhDs and PostDocs) Join the Off-coustics project, funded by the European Research Council (ERC), and make a difference in minimizing the acoustic impact of offshore wind and tidal turbines on marine life. This exciting research opportunity will be based at the School of Aeronautics in Madrid (ETSIAE) — Universidad Politécnica de Madrid. Off-coustics combines numerical simulations and experiments to gain insights into the aero/hydro-acoustic generation and propagation in offshore wind and tidal farms. By controlling these physical processes, our goal is to design silent offshore farms that have minimal impact on marine ecosystems.

Designation:Researcher (PhDs and PostDocs)
Research Area:Experimental Aeroacoustics, Computational Fluid Dynamics
Location:School of Aeronautics (ETSIAE) — Universidad Politécnica de Madrid, Madrid, Spain
Eligibility/Qualification:Technical background with a Ph.D. in engineering or applied mathematics. Expertise in experimental aeroacoustics or computational fluid dynamics. Proficiency in flow visualization techniques (e.g., PIV), acoustic measurements, finite elements, high-order discontinuous Galerkin, and excellent computational skills in Python, Fortran, and HPC. Fluent in English (Spanish proficiency advantageous but not required).

Job Description: We are seeking candidates for two positions:

Position 1 – Experimental Aeroacoustics: The researcher will conduct wind tunnel and water tank experiments for wind and tidal turbines. Responsibilities include quantifying aero/hydro-acoustics emanating from various turbine types and operating conditions.

Position 2 – Computational Aeroacoustics: The researcher will develop and implement aero/hydro-acoustic functionalities in our existing high-order discontinuous Galerkin solver, HORSES3D.

The successful candidates will become part of the dynamic research team led by Prof. Esteban Ferrer at the School of Aeronautics (ETSIAE-UPM) in Madrid, Spain.

What Do We Offer?

  • Competitive salary for 2.5 years
  • A stimulating, young, and multicultural research environment
  • Opportunity to be part of a dynamic and growing research team

How to Apply: Interested candidates should submit the following documents to esteban.ferrer@upm.es quoting the reference ERC_UPM_Offcoustics_2023 before October 30th:

  • Curriculum Vitae (CV)
  • Academic transcripts and references

Join us in this groundbreaking research project and contribute to the development of silent offshore wind and tidal farms that benefit marine life and the environment. Your expertise in aeroacoustics and computational fluid dynamics could make a significant impact on the future of renewable energy.
