Eligibility/Qualification:

  • Education: PhD in Microbiology, Biotechnology, Bioscience Engineering, or a related Life Science subject (or equivalent experience).
  • Experience:
  • Essential: Laboratory experience in bacterial pathogen handling, microbiology techniques related to phage and bacteria culturing, and experience in molecular biology.
  • Desirable: Experience working with bacteriophages and a proven record of relevant publications.

Job Description:

The post holder will work on an MRC-funded project focusing on the mechanisms of multiple drug resistance and genetic evolution of Salmonella in pig and poultry farming. Responsibilities include:

  • Establishing and maintaining a bacteriophage collection for Salmonella.
  • Developing resistant mutants of Salmonella and characterizing their phenotypes.
  • Conducting bioinformatic analysis of Salmonella genomes concerning AMR determinants and phage resistance.
  • Disseminating results through scientific publications and presentations at conferences.
  • Supervising and mentoring junior scientists and visiting researchers.

The post involves attending national project meetings, coordinating research dissemination, and participating in training and career development programs.
