Study Area: The scholarship positions are located at the iSMART lab in the Stevens Institute of Technology, Hoboken, New Jersey. The lab focuses on hydrology research, collaborating with various government agencies and organizations.

Scholarship Description: We are seeking highly motivated candidates with strong coding, modeling, and communication skills, supported by demonstrable achievements. The available positions are in the following fields:

  1. Computer Vision: Collaborate with USGS on image processing projects to measure streamflow using LSPIV or similar methods, with a focus on water resources applications.
  2. Flood Sensing: Contribute to the development and deployment of a low-cost sensor network to measure water levels during flood events and integrate data into hydrologic models. Experience in software and hardware development is essential.
  3. FIRO: Evaluate the potential of forecast-informed reservoir management in New Jersey, working closely with local partners. The tasks involve hydrologic and hydraulic modeling, precipitation forecast utilization, and reservoir management optimization.
  4. Hydrologic Modeling: Specialize in hydrologic modeling, with a particular focus on WRF-Hydro and the National Water Model. Knowledge of the NextGen framework is a plus, as you’ll work on various modeling tasks related to cold regions hydrology, streamflow routing, and pluvial flooding.

Eligibility: All candidates must possess strong coding, modeling, and communication skills, substantiated by tangible achievements. Specific eligibility criteria vary by position but are detailed in each project description.

Required Documents: Applicants are required to submit the following documents:

  • Cover letter
  • Resume
  • Samples of relevant authored or co-authored publications
  • The names and contact information of three references
