Scientific Assistant / Postdoc in Bioinformatics at DTU Food
The Research Group for Global Capacity Building at the DTU National Food Institute is recruiting a bioinformatician with expertise in whole-genome sequencing data analysis, bacterial genomics, and antimicrobial resistance. The successful candidate will support international research, surveillance, training, and capacity-building activities.

Position: Scientific Assistant / Postdoc in Bioinformatics
The appointment level will depend on the candidate’s qualifications. Candidates with a relevant master’s degree may be employed as a Scientific Assistant, while candidates who have completed a PhD may be employed as a Postdoc.

Eligibility and Qualifications
Applicants must hold a master’s degree in engineering or an equivalent qualification in bioinformatics, computational biology, or a related discipline. Candidates with a completed PhD may be considered for appointment as a Postdoc.
Essential expertise includes:
- Strong knowledge of sequencing analysis pipelines for short- and long-read technologies.
- Experience analyzing and interpreting bacterial-isolate WGS data for antimicrobial resistance surveillance and/or genomic epidemiology.
- Proficiency in relevant programming languages and tools, such as Python, R, and Bash.
- Experience working in Unix/Linux environments, including setting up and managing High Performance Computing clusters.
- Familiarity with metagenomic data analysis and machine learning techniques.
- Ability to support non-bioinformaticians and provide training in WGS data analysis.
- Skills in data management, visualization, and statistical analysis.
- Ability to plan and complete complex tasks within deadlines.
- Experience writing scientific manuscripts for peer-reviewed journals.
- Ability to collaborate in large, international, and interdisciplinary teams.
- Excellent written and spoken English, with strong communication skills.
Desirable expertise:
- Experience developing automated quality-control and downstream analysis pipelines using workflow management systems such as Nextflow or Snakemake.
Job Description
The successful candidate will contribute to the Global Capacity Building Research Group’s work as an EU, WHO, and FAO reference laboratory for antimicrobial resistance. Responsibilities will include:
- Developing, maintaining, and expanding bioinformatics pipelines that integrate data from multiple sequencing technologies.
- Analyzing and evaluating WGS data for research and capacity-building projects, including external quality assessments and genomic proficiency tests.
- Providing bioinformatics support for bacterial single-isolate genome and antimicrobial resistance analysis.
- Helping organize and deliver online and in-person training for an international network.
- Organizing data analyses and preparing reports, manuscripts, and visualizations.
- Presenting research results to broad audiences.
- Undertaking occasional travel when required.
The anticipated starting date is 1 December 2026, or as mutually agreed. Employment will end on 31 December 2027. Salary and employment terms will follow the relevant collective agreement and DTU’s salary structure for scientific staff.
