Scientific Employee / Postdoc: The Department of Molecular and Medical Virology at Ruhr University Bochum is seeking a dedicated and skilled Scientific Employee / Postdoc for a 3-year full-time position (39.83 hours per week, TV-L E13). The successful candidate will contribute to groundbreaking research focused on the mechanisms of molecular replication and clinical transmission pathways of hepatitis and flaviviruses, with the aim of developing effective prevention and treatment strategies.

Eligibility/Qualification:
- Ph.D. or equivalent in biology or a related field with an excellent publication record appropriate to the career stage.
- In-depth knowledge and understanding of cell and molecular biology.
- Solid experience in cell and molecular biology techniques.
- Prior experience in virology, especially zoonotic viruses, is advantageous.
- Expertise in the cultivation of human and animal cell lines.
- Familiarity with working under BSL 2/3 conditions.
- Basic knowledge of bioinformatics for viral sequence analysis.
- Excellent teamwork skills and the ability to work in an international and interdisciplinary environment.
- Fluent written and spoken English.
Job Description:
The incumbent will work on a project aimed at analyzing the mechanisms of cell entry and genome release of the hepatitis E virus (HEV). Responsibilities will include:
- Developing innovative biochemical and microscopy-based assay systems to study these processes in detail.
- Investigating the tissue tropism of HEV using various cell culture systems to identify potential pathogenic mechanisms related to HEV-associated extrahepatic manifestations.
- Contributing to a deeper understanding of the viral life cycle and identifying new targets for antiviral strategy development.
