Scientific Researcher–Ecosystem Analysis: The University of Koblenz, Germany’s youngest university with a strong academic tradition, is seeking a Scientific Researcher (m/f/d) in the newly established group “Aquatic Ecosystem Analysis” under the leadership of Prof. Dr. Kenneth Dumack. This position is funded by the DFG (German Research Foundation) and focuses on research into microbial bioindicators in wastewater treatment.

Eligibility/Qualification

  • Completed university degree (Master’s or equivalent) in Biology, Aquatic Science, or related fields.
  • Ph.D. degree (optional; opportunity for doctoral qualification is available if not yet completed).
  • Strong experience in ecological data analysis.
  • Programming skills (preferably in R) are advantageous.
  • Experience with environmental sequencing (e.g., metabarcoding) is desirable.
  • Preference for candidates with expertise in microbial eukaryotes (protists).
  • Good German language skills are mandatory.

Job Description

  • Active participation in research, teaching, and academic self-governance.
  • Participation in sample collection and field excursions.
  • Presentation of research findings at scientific conferences and in journals.
  • Work within the DFG-funded project focusing on the collection and meta-analysis of long-term wastewater treatment plant data.
  • Data collection will mainly involve telephone consultations with treatment plant operators.
