Scientist in Molecular Biology: The Leibniz Institute of Vegetable and Ornamental Crops (IGZ) is seeking an enthusiastic and ambitious Scientist in Molecular Biology to join our research group. This position focuses on understanding the molecular mechanisms underlying plant adaptations to temperature stresses, specifically using tomato (Solanum lycopersicum) as a model species.

Research Area

The project focuses on investigating the adaptive mechanisms of tomato plants to temperature changes, analyzing gene expression dynamics, and improving climate-resilience in horticultural systems.

Eligibility/Qualification

  • Completed Ph.D. in Plant Biology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, or Genetics
  • Experience with tomato plants, including tissue culture
  • Proficient in cloning and assays for analyzing transcriptional regulation and protein–protein interactions
  • Experience with confocal microscopy for protein localization and stress responses
  • Very good knowledge of English (oral and written)
  • High degree of responsibility, accuracy, and ability to prioritize
  • Willingness to integrate into an international working environment

Job Description

  • Analyze gene expression dynamics in response to temperature changes
  • Identify transcriptional regulatory networks involved in heat stress responses
  • Generate CRISPR mutants in tomato plants
  • Supervise Bachelor’s and Master’s students
  • Write scientific publications and present results to an international audience
