Research Area

The Department of Interface Science, led by Prof. Beatriz Roldán Cuenya, focuses on advanced functional materials applicable in heterogeneous catalysis, energy conversion, and electrochemistry. Key areas include operando studies of catalysts in various reactions and the development of experimental infrastructure.

Eligibility/Qualification

  • PhD in Chemistry, Physics, or Physical Chemistry (specialization in electrochemistry, thermal catalysis, or surface science preferred)
  • Strong publication record in peer-reviewed journals
  • Knowledge of inorganic chemistry, heterogeneous catalysis, and electrochemistry
  • Expertise in gas analysis, mass spectrometry/chromatography
  • Proficient in in situ X-ray spectroscopy in the soft energy range
  • Good knowledge of vacuum technology
  • Excellent communication skills in German and English

Job Description

  • Conduct independent X-ray spectroscopic measurements on active catalyst surfaces.
  • Develop reaction cells and infrastructure for operando investigations.
  • Perform XPS and XAS measurements under conditions of water oxidation and carbon dioxide reduction.
  • Guide doctoral students and engineers, and manage data analysis.
  • Prepare publications and present results at international meetings.
  • Collaborate in user support for various beamlines.
