Fully Funded Seagrass PhD Scholarship: Investigating Water Quality’s Impact on Greenhouse Gas Emissions from Seagrass (RS662)

  • Eligibility/Qualification: Candidates must hold a UK Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of Upper Second Class honors in Biosciences or a related subject. Alternatively, overseas Bachelor’s degrees deemed equivalent to UK qualifications and achieving a grade equivalent to UK Upper Second Class honors in Biosciences or a related subject will be considered. A Master’s degree with a minimum overall grade at ‘Merit’ or its non-UK equivalent is also acceptable. Additionally, applicants must demonstrate proficiency in English by attaining an overall IELTS score of 6.5 (with no individual component below 6.0) or its Swansea University recognized equivalent.
  • Job Description: The successful candidate will be responsible for investigating greenhouse gas emissions and their sources (sinks) from seagrass habitats, particularly focusing on the influence of anthropogenic factors such as water quality. The project will utilize the Milford Haven Waterway in West Wales as a case study and may involve study sites in Scotland to examine nitrous oxide and methane emissions in the context of seagrass degradation. The research will require a multidisciplinary approach, incorporating skills from biochemistry, ecology, molecular ecology, and statistics.
