Study Area: The scholarship focuses on retinal eye diseases, particularly inherited retinal degenerations (IRDs) such as retinitis pigmentosa, and age-related macular degeneration (AMD).
Scholarship Description: The scholarship offers an opportunity to conduct research aimed at developing personalized treatment and prevention options for retinal diseases. Research activities include genome-wide association studies, development of eye-on-a-chip and patient-specific stem cell-derived retinal in vitro models, complement assays, and antisense oligonucleotide and CRISPR-cas9 technology.
Eligibility:
- Ph.D. in a relevant field (e.g., biology, bioengineering, biomedical engineering)
- Proven experience in electrophysiology, ideally in functional imaging, cell/tissue culture, or molecular biology
- Familiarity with the latest techniques in biology
- Background in statistics and data analysis
- Programming experience in Python, Matlab, R, or similar
- Track record of publications in peer-reviewed journals
