Senior Postdoctoral Research Scientist: The Earlham Institute in Norwich, UK, is inviting applications for a three-year position (with a possibility of extension) as a Postdoctoral Research Scientist in the Quince Group within the High-Resolution Microbiomics group. The research focuses on developing novel computational methods for microbiome analysis, applying them to environmental and host-associated communities to understand microbial diversity and its relation to function.
Designation: Postdoctoral / Senior Postdoctoral Research Scientist
Research Area: Computational Methods for Microbiome Analysis
Location: Earlham Institute, Norwich, UK
Eligibility/Qualification: The ideal candidate should have a Ph.D. in bioinformatics or statistics, or a related subject area with a strong element of statistical modeling. A first degree in any area of science is also required. Essential qualifications include knowledge of command line bioinformatics, software programming (e.g., R, Python, C/C++), and a basic understanding of statistics. Scientific writing skills, oral research presentation experience, and knowledge of Bayesian statistics, probabilistic modeling, bioinformatics of metagenomics or metabolomics, and a biological understanding of microbial communities and horizontal gene transfer would be advantageous.
Job Description:
Postdoctoral / Senior Postdoctoral Research Scientist (Computational Methods for Microbiome Analysis)
The Postdoctoral Research Scientist will work on developing computational and statistical methods for microbiome analysis, leveraging new sequencing technologies like long reads and Hi-C, along with integration with metabolomics. The role involves considerable freedom in areas such as statistics, computational tools, or bioinformatics pipelines. Examples include strain-level genome reconstruction, metagenomics assembly from long reads, metagenome and metabolomics data integration, and tracking horizontal gene transfer in microbiomes. The developed tools will be applied to various microbiome datasets, including studies on therapeutic diets for Crohn’s disease and antimicrobial resistance.
How to Apply: Candidates need to download, save, and complete the application form using Microsoft Word or prepare a CV containing all required information. Applications must be submitted by January 5, 2024.
