Systems Biology Postdoctoral Call: The Institute of Functional Biology and Genomics (IBFG-CSIC) is seeking outstanding candidates to join the newly established Systems Biology Postdoctoral Program. This program provides advanced training in systems biology research and professional development opportunities, including academic writing, communication, and outreach. Successful applicants will receive mentorship to navigate academic career paths and be integrated into the Spanish and international research communities.

Research Area: Systems Biology, Biophysics, Computational Biology, Molecular Biology, Evolutionary Processes, Epigenetics

Location: Institute of Functional Biology and Genomics (IBFG), Salamanca, Spain

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • PhD in Biology, Biochemistry, Bioinformatics, Physics, Mathematics, or related fields.
  • Strong research track record and ability to work collaboratively.
  • Eligibility to work in the European Union.
  • Willingness to apply for postdoctoral fellowships or external funding.
  • Specific requirements based on research areas:
    • Dr. Alvaro Sanchez: Strong background in biophysics, mathematics, and statistics.
    • Dr. Cristina Vieitez: Expertise in protein biology, protein post-translational modifications (PTMs), epigenetics, and omics data analysis. Programming skills in R.
    • Dr. Juan Diaz-Colunga: Strong quantitative background in mathematics, physics, or related fields. Programming skills in R and/or Python or willingness to learn. Knowledge of mathematical models of population genetics is desirable.

Job Description:

  • Conduct high-impact research in one of the available research areas.
  • Work in an interdisciplinary and collaborative environment with access to state-of-the-art laboratories.
  • Mentor undergraduate and graduate students.
  • Attend international workshops and conferences with institutional support.
  • Be integrated into the Spanish Social Security System, including health and occupational insurance coverage.
  • Receive a work contract of up to 4 years with a competitive salary (38,000 – 42,000€ per year).
