Research Area:
The successful candidate will be expected to develop a vigorous, externally funded research program in areas including but not limited to sustainable farming practices, agronomy, agroecosystem management, soil health, chemical ecology, plant-microbe interactions, ecological pest management emphasizing biological controls, climate adaptation of agricultural systems, resilience in food systems, and social equity in food production.
Location:
The position is located at UMass Amherst, offering a rich cultural environment in a bucolic setting close to major urban centers within the scenic Pioneer Valley of Western Massachusetts.
Eligibility/Qualification:
- A Ph.D. in agroecology, horticulture, plant science, plant physiology, agronomy, environmental sciences, food policy, or related fields. Postdoctoral experience is desirable.
- Demonstrated potential for research excellence in agroecology and related disciplines.
- Evidence of scholarly productivity, including publications in reputable journals and presentations at conferences.
- Teaching experience at the undergraduate and/or graduate level, with evidence of effective instruction and mentorship.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse range of stakeholders.
Job Description:
The responsibilities will include 40% research, 40% teaching, and 20% service. This role will involve teaching undergraduate and graduate courses related to agroecology and agricultural sciences, or related courses in the candidate’s disciplinary area. Engaging with local stakeholders and contributing to departmental, college, and university committees are also expected. Furthermore, the successful candidate is required to disseminate research findings and promote the application of agroecological principles in the broader community.
