Tenure-track Position at University of Pittsburgh: The University of Pittsburgh Department of Linguistics is seeking applications for an Assistant Professor (tenure-track) specializing in computational and/or corpus approaches to syntax, morphology, semantics, or pragmatics. Eligibility/Qualification:

Essential Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in linguistics or applied linguistics (or allied fields: psychology, computer science, cognitive science, anthropology)
  • Strong publication record in morphology, syntax, semantics, and/or pragmatics using computational and/or corpus approaches
  • Ability to teach relevant courses: morphology, syntax, semantics, pragmatics, corpus linguistics, computational linguistics, data science
  • Evidence of addressing theoretical questions with cutting-edge empirical work across disciplines

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Expertise in data-intensive and quantitative methods
  • Experience with both structured and unstructured data
  • Focus on non-English language(s)
  • Demonstrated excellence in teaching at higher education level
  • Experience in mentoring graduate students
  • Expertise in the core area of morphology and/or syntax
  • Evidence of a critical perspective in research and teaching
  • Active engagement with open-science practices
  • Experience in partnerships outside academia (e.g., industry or non-profit sectors)

The selected candidate will contribute to research in computational and corpus-based approaches to morphology, syntax, semantics, or pragmatics. Teaching responsibilities will include relevant courses in linguistics, and there is an expectation of addressing theoretical questions with cutting-edge empirical work across disciplinary lines. The department is keen on expanding its expertise and building on its existing strengths.
