Transfer Manager / Postdoctoral : The GIGA (German Institute for Global and Area Studies) is seeking applications for an 80% position in Hamburg for the role of MECAM Outreach & Transfer Manager / Postdoctoral Research Fellow. This position is part of the MECAM project – Merian Centre for Advanced Studies in the Maghreb, funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF). The successful candidate will be responsible for planning events, engaging in outreach activities, representing MECAM at conferences, and conducting social science research with a focus on the contemporary Maghreb.

Research Area: Contemporary Maghreb with a focus on political science, sociology, and economics
Location: German Institute for Global and Area Studies (GIGA), Hamburg, Germany
Eligibility/Qualification:
- Doctoral degree in political science, sociology, economics, or other social science
- Fluency in English and French
- Active research agenda with proficiency in theoretical and methodological debates
- Very good knowledge of political, social, and economic developments in the Maghreb
- Experience in outreach and transfer
Desired qualifications:
- Basic reading and speaking proficiency in German
- Basic reading and speaking proficiency in Standard Arabic and/or one Maghrebi dialect
- Experience of living and working in the Maghreb
Job Description:
- Planning and organization of “Rencontres Ibn Khaldoun” events in Tunisia
- Planning, organizing, and possibly moderating “MECAM Policy Talk” events in Berlin
- Representation of MECAM at national and international scholarly conferences
- Undertaking social science research on the contemporary Maghreb and publishing in SSCI-ranked journals
