Two Junior Postdocs: The VIB-UGent Center for Plant Systems Biology invites applications for two Junior Postdoc positions to contribute to a collaborative project on the discovery of bioactive metabolites involved in the chemical warfare between fungi and tomato plants. Successful candidates will join the dynamic team led by Prof. Alain Goossens at the Ghent University.

Two Junior Postdocs – Discovery of Bioactive Metabolites in the Chemical War Between Fungi and Tomato

Designation: Post-Doctoral

Research Area: Discovery, characterization, and production of novel bioactive metabolites by exploiting the chemical warfare during tomato-fungi interactions.

Location: Ghent, Belgium

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • Ph.D. degree in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Bio-engineering, Plant Biotechnology, Microbiology, or equivalent.
  • Maximum 3 years of postdoctoral research experience.
  • Interest in plant-fungi interactions, plant immunity, regulation of metabolism, metabolites, and/or synthetic biology.
  • Ability to plan and conduct independent research with a hands-on mentality.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, teamwork, enthusiasm, and a critical mindset.
  • Proficient use of the English language for communication.

Desirable but not required:

  • International research experience in relevant fields.
  • Publication record in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Experience in guiding master’s and/or Ph.D. students.

Job Description: The postdoctoral scientists will play key roles in launching and conducting groundbreaking research within the collaborative project. Responsibilities include conducting cutting-edge research in plant molecular biology and plant immunity, as well as innovative experimentation with a focus on microbial (fungal) metabolism, metabolomics, and synthetic biology. The positions also involve mentoring Ph.D. students and active collaboration with research groups at Ghent University.
