Two PhD Positions in AI: The University of Amsterdam’s Informatics Institute invites applications for two PhD positions in the field of Artificial Intelligence (AI) / Data Science and Computational Science / Complex Systems Science. The research will focus on developing forensically sound, unbiased, and transparent AI methods and complex systems science methods to model, detect, and explore patterns in financial and other big data sources related to organized crime. The positions are part of the COMCRIM research consortium, aiming to combat crimes that undermine democratic societies.

Location: University of Amsterdam, Netherlands
Eligibility/Qualification:

  • Relevant master’s degree in Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Computational Science, or Computer Science.
  • Research experience in AI/data science (Project 1) or computational science/complex systems (Project 2) or related topics.
  • Solid programming skills, including experience with Python and deep learning/simulation frameworks.
  • Willingness to collaborate with researchers, stakeholders, and contribute to combatting and understanding crime.
  • Professional command of English (both verbal and written).

Job Description:

  • Conduct research and experiments to develop advanced AI tools and computational methods.
  • Publish and present research in international peer-reviewed conferences and journals.
  • Pursue and complete a PhD thesis within a four-year duration.
  • Collaborate with other researchers in the COMCRIM project and the Informatics Institute.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to understand their needs and provide developed tools.
  • Assist in teaching activities, including labs/tutorials and supervision of students.
