Two-Year Postdoctoral Position, University of Copenhagen, Denmark

The University of Copenhagen has four campus areas. As distances in Copenhagen are relatively small, it is easy to get from one campus to the other either by bicycle or public transportation. The campus areas are integrated into the city of Copenhagen and students use the facilities available in the city, adding a lively buzz to the streets and cafés of Copenhagen.

Two-Year Postdoctoral Position: The University of Copenhagen is seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher for a two-year position (with the potential for extension to three years) focused on volatile organic compound (VOC) biogeochemistry. This role is an opportunity to join a dynamic, international research team in a stimulating work environment.

Two-Year Postdoctoral Position in Volatile Organic Compound Biogeochemistry

Designation:
Postdoctoral Researcher

Research Area:
Volatile Organic Compound (VOC) Biogeochemistry

Location:
Department of Biology, University of Copenhagen, North Campus, Universitetsparken 15, Copenhagen, 2100

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • PhD in ecology, geochemistry, physical geography, environmental science, or a related field.
  • Strong experience with techniques relevant to elemental biogeochemical cycles, including fieldwork, laboratory design, and data analysis.
  • Active interest in trace gas biogeochemistry.
  • Excellent written and spoken English skills.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively in a team environment.

Desirable Skills:

  • Isotope techniques for tracing carbon biogeochemical processes.
  • Molecular approaches for studying microbial communities and their functional roles.
  • Modelling of biogeochemical cycles or VOC dynamics.

Job Description:
This position is funded by a Villum Young Investigator grant focusing on carbon processes in peatlands, which store more carbon than all the world’s plants combined. The successful candidate will work toward understanding how gases, including VOCs, are produced and removed in peatlands, contributing to climate models. Candidates are encouraged to propose their own research plans relevant to VOC biogeochemistry.

How to Apply:
Interested applicants must submit the following documents online in PDF format:

  1. Motivated letter of application (max. one page).
  2. CV including education, work/research experience, skills relevant to the position.
