University Assistant (Postdoc): The Institute of Microbiology at the University of Innsbruck is seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Scholar to join the newly founded research group ‘Microbial Virology.’ The group focuses on studying viruses and genetic elements infecting Archaea, as well as extracellular vesicles and their impact on cell-to-cell communication and virus-host interactions. The position is offered for a duration of 4 years, starting from March 2024, with possibilities for extensions.
Designation: University Assistant (Postdoc)
Research Area: Microbial Virology, with a focus on Archaea and their viruses.
Location: Institute of Microbiology, University of Innsbruck, Austria
Eligibility/Qualification:
- PhD in biology, microbiology, virology, or a related field.
- Proven publication experience.
- Experience with the cultivation of microorganisms and molecular biology techniques (DNA/RNA/protein characterization).
- Knowledge of virus-host interactions, especially in microorganisms (preferably archaea); basic bioinformatics knowledge; experience in supervising students.
- Excellent communication skills in English (writing and speaking) and an independent, cooperative, and team-oriented working style.
- Research experience, ideally with a stay abroad and experience working with archaea or extremophiles.
Job Description:
- Conduct independent research in microbial virology, focusing on archaea and their viruses.
- Plan and execute research projects, including grant applications, and participate in research projects of the working group.
- Plan and implement teaching courses, examinations, and co-supervise students at the institute.
- Participate in organizational and administrative tasks.
