University Assistant (Postdoctoral): The University of Vienna is seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher to join the Faculty of Physics. As part of the Computational and Soft Matter Physics Subunit within the Experimental Soft Matter Physics (SoMeX) group led by Prof. Roberto Cerbino, you will have the opportunity to engage in cutting-edge research and teaching in the area of Soft Matter Physics. This is a 6-year fixed-term position, starting on November 18, 2024.

Designation: University Assistant (Postdoctoral) – Faculty of Physics

Research Area: Experimental Soft Matter Physics

Location: University of Vienna, Vienna, Austria

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • PhD/Doctoral degree in Physics or a related discipline.
  • Proven research competence with international publications in Soft Matter Physics or related fields.
  • Strong experience with microscopy (especially differential dynamic microscopy) and scattering experiments.
  • Expertise in image processing techniques.
  • Didactic skills and teaching experience (e-learning experience is a plus).
  • Excellent proficiency in English (C1), and knowledge of German is welcome.
  • Experience in research project management and leading project teams is advantageous.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

Job Description:

  • Conduct independent research in Experimental Soft Matter Physics, contributing to ongoing research projects.
  • Secure third-party funding for research initiatives.
  • Publish in high-impact international journals and present findings at global conferences.
  • Develop and enhance an independent research profile.
  • Teach and supervise students, contributing to the academic development of the faculty.
  • Organize and participate in academic events (conferences, seminars).
  • Support the faculty with administrative and evaluation tasks to uphold research and teaching standards.
  • Actively engage in professional development and foster collaboration across disciplines and institutions.
