University Assistant (Pre-Doc) / PhD Student: The Center for Biological Sciences at the Veterinary University of Vienna is seeking a motivated PhD student to develop a research project in the field of intercellular crosstalk during the development of intestinal tumors. The project will investigate the epithelial-fibroblast crosstalk using organoids, single-cell RNA sequencing, ATAC-sequencing, CRISPR/Cas9-mediated genome engineering, and high-resolution imaging. The goal is to characterize changes in tumor-adjacent fibroblasts during epithelial transformation using a multidisciplinary approach.

Eligibility/Qualification

  • Completed studies in a relevant field, e.g., molecular or cell biology (diploma or bachelor’s + master’s program within 300 ECTS)
  • Solid laboratory experience in fundamental molecular biology and biochemical techniques (PCR, molecular cloning, etc.)
  • Extensive experience with cell culture techniques (cultivation of adherent cell lines, primary cells, etc.)
  • Good English language skills in written and spoken (B2 level)

Description

  • Conduct independent research activities within the framework of the PhD thesis
  • Take responsibility for research projects
  • Perform scientific experiments according to standard practices, including maintaining comprehensive records in English
  • Participate in academic teaching according to the collective agreement
  • Assist with teaching, organizational, and administrative tasks
