Job Description

Within the ERC Advanced Grant Project Dynamics on and of Random Graphs (Dynamics.oRG), the selected Postdocs will investigate phase transitions of stochastic processes on random graphs. These processes model real-world phenomena such as infection spread and consensus reaching. The primary objective is to build a deep mathematical understanding of the double randomness inherent in stochastic processes acting on random network environments.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Conducting advanced research on how random environments influence the nature, timing, and mechanisms of phase transitions.
  • Collaborating with an active research team consisting of PhD students, other Postdocs, and international collaborators.
  • Managing individual research subprojects alongside team goals.
  • Contributing to societal impact and valorization derived from network theory mathematics.
  • Assisting in mentoring and coaching Master’s and PhD students.

Eligibility & Qualification

Candidates must meet the following criteria:

  • A PhD degree in probability, statistical mechanics, random graphs, or a closely related mathematical domain.
  • Demonstrated ability to produce high-quality academic research, evidenced by relevant scientific outputs/publications.
  • Intrinsic passion and motivation for fundamental mathematical research.
  • A collaborative mindset with enthusiasm for working in a dynamic team and mentoring junior researchers.
  • Proven capacity to manage complex research projects and deliver results within designated timelines.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and English language skills (both verbal and written).

Benefits & Conditions of Employment

  • Full-time appointment for 1 year, extendable by another year upon positive performance evaluation.
  • Gross monthly salary ranging from €4,422 to €5,760 (Scale 10, Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities).
  • Additional 8% holiday allowance and an 8.3% year-end bonus annually.
  • Generous leave policy (29 to 41 days per year for full-time employment).
  • Comprehensive pension scheme (ABP) with 70% paid by the employer.
  • Relocation allowances, expat tax compensation support, free mental health resources (OpenUp), and access to campus sports and childcare facilities.

How to Apply

Interested applicants must submit their application directly through the official TU/e application portal. Applications sent via email or postal services will not be considered. Complete applications must include:

  • A cover letter detailing motivation and research qualifications.
  • A comprehensive Curriculum Vitae including a full list of publications.
  • Contact details for three professional references.
