Postdoctoral Associate – Neuroprotection: A postdoctoral associate position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Erik Bloss at The Jackson Laboratory in Bar Harbor, Maine. The role involves investigating the mechanisms by which exercise-responsive circuits can be manipulated to prevent structural and functional decline of cortical synapses during aging and in mouse models of Alzheimer’s disease. The research will include chemogenetic and optogenetic manipulations of neural activity, cognitive assays, and microscopic reconstruction of synapses on hypothalamic and cortical neurons.

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • M.D. or Ph.D. in biological or related sciences
  • Strong training background in neuroscience preferred
  • Experience/training in cell biology, aging, exercise physiology, or cognitive/behavioral neuroscience is valuable
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
  • Self-motivated and career-oriented individual preferred
  • Minimum of one 1st author paper from graduate work

The successful candidate will plan, develop, execute, and analyze an independent research project. Responsibilities include chemogenetic and optogenetic manipulations, cognitive assays, and microscopic reconstruction of synapses on neurons.   • 2-3 Years: $60,083 – $64,679

  • 4-5 Years: $63,371 – $68,219
  • 5+ Years: $65,712 – $70,739
