Doctoral and Postdoctoral Researcher (f/m/d): The Professorship for the Design of Trustworthy Artificial Intelligence at the Center for Advanced Internet Studies (CAIS) gGmbH in Bochum, Germany, is inviting applications for three Doctoral Researcher positions and one Postdoctoral Researcher position in Computer Science, Human-Computer Interaction, or Computational Social Science. The positions are funded for up to five years, with a preferred start date of April 1st, 2024.

Designation:

  • 3 x Doctoral Researcher (Wissenschaftliche:r Mitarbeiter:in) in Computer Science, Human-Computer Interaction, or Computational Social Science (Salary group TV-L 13, 100%)
  • 1 x Postdoctoral Researcher (Wissenschaftliche:r Mitarbeiter:in) in Computer Science, Human-Computer Interaction, or Computational Social Science (Salary group TV-L 13, 100%)

Research Area: Trustworthy Artificial Intelligence, with specializations in user understanding of AI systems, control of ML-based systems, and co-creation with users in AI system design.

Location: Center for Advanced Internet Studies (CAIS) gGmbH, Bochum, Germany

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computational Social Science, Media Informatics, Human-Computer Interaction, Digital Media, or a related field.
  • Programming skills in at least one language (Python, Ruby, Java, JavaScript, Dart, or equivalent).
  • English C1 proficiency or equivalent.

Desirable:

  • Demonstrated experience with scientific publications.
  • Experience in user-centered and/or participatory software development.
  • Experience in developing mobile apps and/or web applications.
  • German C1 proficiency or equivalent.

Job Description:

  • Conduct research in the chosen specialization (Trust in AI Through Understanding, Trust in AI Through Control, or Trust in AI Through Co-Creation).
  • Collaborate on analyzing biases, ethical issues, and user beliefs in popular platforms.
  • Develop methods for systematic audits of ML-based systems.
  • Contribute to the deep involvement of users in the design of AI systems.
  • Participate in scientific publications, data analysis, and collaboration with researchers.
