Fully Funded PhD Position in Biodiversity Monitoring using Camera Traps
The PhD position involves conducting research at the Kalahari Research Centre, focusing on the biodiversity dynamics of the Kalahari ecosystem using a network of 150 camera traps. The candidate will analyze extensive data, employ machine learning and AI tools for species identification, develop statistical methods for biodiversity analysis, and apply GIS analysis to investigate spatial patterns. Additionally, they will coordinate fieldwork activities, ensuring the successful continuation of research in the field.
Eligibility:
- MSc degree (or equivalent) in ecology, environmental science, data science, or a related field.
- Experience in data management and handling large datasets.
- Familiarity with/interest in machine learning and AI applications.
- Proficiency in GIS analysis in biological research.
- Strong interest in biodiversity, conservation, and ecological research.
- Solid quantitative skills and interest in Bayesian statistical analysis.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a diverse team.
