Postdoctoral Researcher (m/f/d): The Department of Forest Genetics at the University of Freiburg is seeking a motivated Postdoctoral Researcher (m/f/d) for a full-time position focused on the phenology of tropical tree species and the evolutionary ecology of trees. The successful candidate will be part of a DFG-funded Emmy Noether project, contributing to research on environmental cues, molecular mechanisms, and the consequences for plant-animal interactions in neotropical tree species.

Location: Department of Forest Genetics, University of Freiburg, Germany

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • MSc in biology, ecology, environmental science, or similar fields
  • Completed Ph.D. with excellent results
  • Experience in postdoctoral positions is advantageous
  • Prior fieldwork experience in the neotropics is essential
  • Fluency in Spanish for communication with local stakeholders
  • Experience in forest ecology, phenology, plant-animal interactions, and population genetics
  • Laboratory work experience is advantageous
  • Good communication and team skills
  • Meticulous approach to work
  • Experience in science communication, including coordinating citizen science projects
  • Ability to work in physically and mentally demanding conditions in a tropical rainforest
  • Tree climbing experience (beneficial but not necessary)

Job Description: The postdoctoral researcher will work on the Emmy Noether project, conducting research on the phenology of neotropical tree species. Responsibilities include field and lab work, co-supervision of BSc and MSc students, and individual investigations related to plant-animal interactions. The role also involves coordinating a Citizen Science project in Ecuador and supporting the working group in research, teaching, and administrative tasks.
