The successful candidate will join the dynamic research team at the forefront of developing innovative solutions for the diagnosis and management of bloodstream infections (BSI). This opportunity is part of the DRAIGON consortium, funded by the Horizon Europe program, and focuses on integrating whole-genome sequencing and artificial intelligence for rapid and accurate diagnosis of patients infected with multi-drug resistant microorganisms.

Eligibility/Qualification:
- Master’s degree in Biomedical Sciences, Molecular Biology, or related field
- Experience or strong interest in molecular microbiology and laboratory techniques, including next-generation sequencing
- Collaborative spirit to work within an interdisciplinary team and with clinical partners
- Excellent organizational skills for managing complex workflows and data collection processes
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, to present research findings effectively
- Proficiency in bioinformatics, bacterial and yeast identification, and detection of AMR markers is highly desirable
- Skilled in data analysis and interpretation, comparing different diagnostic approaches
Job Description: The PhD student will:
- Design and establish patient inclusion criteria and determine relevant outcome parameters for data collection
- Conduct comparative analysis of AMR prediction results using short-read and long-read sequencing technologies
- Develop and standardize a comprehensive workflow for profiling pathogens and detecting AMR from pre-enriched cultures
- Collect and integrate clinical data alongside standard-of-care diagnostics and sequencing data
- Perform in-depth data analysis to compare the efficacy of sequence-based diagnostics with standard-of-care methods
- Identify and evaluate critical steps affecting the diagnostic process, time-to-result, and workflow reliability
