Doctoral Candidate (Scientific Project Employee): Paris Lodron University Salzburg, Austria, is inviting applications for a doctoral candidate position (f/m/d; 30 hours/week; 4 years) as a scientific project employee. This position is part of the ‘Excellence in Digital Sciences and Interdisciplinary Technologies’ (EXDIGIT) initiative funded by the State of Salzburg. The successful candidate will work closely with Prof. Christine Bauer, EXDIGIT Professor of Interactive Intelligent Systems, collaborating within the wider framework of the EXDIGIT Research College and existing research groups within the Faculty of Digital and Analytical Sciences.

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • Background in Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, Computer Science, Information Science, Computational Social Sciences, Human-Computer Interaction, or related field
  • Strong interest in conducting interdisciplinary research
  • Well-developed programming skills (needed for, e.g., offline evaluation)
  • Interest in interacting with humans in research (e.g., questionnaires, experiments, interviews)
  • Interest in data science
  • Strong interest in algorithmic curation, adaptation, and personalization
  • Good communicative skills in English, both in writing and speech
  • Interest in the music sector or a related field in entertainment is a plus

Job Description: The successful candidate is expected to:

  • Conduct interdisciplinary research with a focus on recommender systems
  • Collaborate with research groups and institutions within the EXDIGIT initiative
  • Publish research results at scientific conferences and in journals
  • Assist in organizing scientific events
  • Support the acquisition of third-party funding
  • Potentially undertake teaching assignments (to be agreed upon separately)
