PhD Position on Thermo-Chemical Recycling of Plastic Wastes

Research Area: Thermo-Chemical Recycling of Plastic Wastes

Location: Division of Energy Technology, Chalmers University, Gothenburg, Sweden

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • Master’s level degree (at least 240 ECTS credits) in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Civil or Environmental Engineering, Engineering Physics, or equivalent.
  • Excellent writing and communication skills in English.
  • Experimental experience in thermal conversion, familiarity with gas analysis instruments (e.g., gas chromatography, FTIR), or experience with kinetic modeling (e.g., Chemkin or similar tools) is considered a merit.

Job Description:

  • Conduct research on the thermochemical conversion of waste with a focus on heterogeneous waste streams.
  • Plan, execute, and evaluate experimental campaigns using a pilot-scale facility for pyrolysis and gasification trials.
  • Utilize advanced analytics for product characterization and experimental lab facilities for fluid bed conversion.
  • Combine experimental work with modeling using tools like Chemkin, FactSage, and Matlab/Python.
  • Collaborate with other researchers and effectively communicate research results through conferences and journals.
  • Pursue doctoral studies, develop scientific concepts, and defend the doctoral thesis within 4-5 years.

Contract Terms:

  • Full-time temporary employment, limited to a maximum of five years.
