Funded Ph.D. and Master’s Openings, Santa Clara University, USA

Post-Doctoral Fellowship Position at USA, Ozbolat Laboratory at Penn State

Funded Ph.D. and Master’s Openings: The GIFTED (Geometric Informatics For Technology, Engineering, and Design) lab at Santa Clara University, led by Assistant Professor Dr. Jun Wang, is offering funded Ph.D. and Master’s openings in Mechanical Engineering. The lab focuses on cutting-edge research in geometric modeling, machine learning, and advanced manufacturing, with a mission to advance Data-Driven Design, Physics-Driven Design, and Design for Additive Manufacturing. The successful candidates will contribute to groundbreaking research leveraging Artificial Intelligence, Big Data, and Cloud-Computing power to revolutionize design and manufacturing processes.

Designation: Ph.D. and Master’s Students

Research Area: Geometric Modeling/Simulation, Computer Graphics, Data-Driven Design

Location: Santa Clara University, Silicon Valley

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • Highly motivated Ph.D. and Master’s students with a research interest in Geometric Modeling/Simulation, Computer Graphics, and Data-Driven Design.
  • Experience with IGA (Isogeometric Analysis)/FEA/CFD platforms (e.g., LS-DYNA, Abaqus, FENICS, OpenFOAM), geometric modeling/graphics platforms (CGAL, GIBBON), and machine learning platforms (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch) is highly valued.
  • Ideal candidates are expected to have a BS or master’s degree (needed for the Ph.D. program) in Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Industrial Engineering, Mathematics, or closely related fields.
  • Strong programming experience in Python/C++/Matlab and a solid mathematical background in statistics and probability are desirable.
  • Fluent communication skills in English (verbal, presentation, and writing) are required for effective interaction with technical peers, scholars, and sponsors.

Job Description: The selected candidates will work on cutting-edge research projects in geometric modeling, simulation, computer graphics, and data-driven design. The focus areas include Data-Driven Design/Simulation/Manufacturing (Inverse Design & Generative Design), Physics-Driven Design, and Design for Additive Manufacturing. Successful candidates will be actively involved in leveraging advanced technologies such as Artificial Intelligence, Big Data, and Cloud-Computing power to generate diverse yet performance-equivalent designs in short time scales.
