Ph.D. Position – Chip Technologies, University of Basel, Switzerland

PhD Fellowship IN Switzerland

Ph.D. Position – Chip Technologies: The Department of Biomedical Engineering at the University of Basel, Switzerland, invites applications for a fully funded Ph.D. position under the PHOENIX-OoC Project. This multidisciplinary project, funded by the HORIZON European (EIC) Pathfinder Grant, focuses on developing a novel Organ-on-a-Chip (OoC) technology using paper, cell growth, mathematical modeling, and biosensors. The research aims to create a joint-on-chip model for drug screening in osteoarthritis, a prevalent musculoskeletal disease.

Ph.D. Position – Organ-on-a-Chip Technologies for Drug Screening in Osteoarthritis

Designation: Ph.D. Candidate

Research Area: Biomedical Engineering, Materials Science, Biotechnology, Chemistry

Location: University of Basel, Switzerland

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • Master’s degree in Biomedical Engineering, Materials Science, Biotechnology, Chemistry, or a related field.
  • Background in microfluidics, biomaterials, tissue engineering, electrochemistry.
  • Proficiency in cell culture techniques, biocompatibility assays, electrochemistry, and biosensors.
  • Familiarity with CAD software, programming, analytical and computational modeling.
  • Experience with photolithography, soft lithography, and the design/fabrication/use of Organ-on-chip devices is advantageous.
  • Knowledge of written and spoken English; knowledge of other Swiss languages is a plus.

Job Description: The Ph.D. candidate will work on the development of stable interfaces for Na solid-state batteries. The research involves synthesizing and characterizing novel solid-state electrolyte materials, studying cell behavior on new materials, developing an osteoarthritic model using paper-microfluidic devices, and investigating drug diffusion and cellular responses in real-time using electrochemical sensors.
