Scholarship Description: This PhD project focuses on exploring the influence of mobile genetic elements (MGEs) on the evolution of Asgard archaea. Using advanced bioinformatics, the candidate will develop computational methods to extract viral genomes from metagenomic datasets, establish associations between viruses and hosts, and create precise methods for annotating viral genomes. The project offers opportunities for collaboration, teaching, and contributing to scientific contexts within the Department of Microbiology.
Eligibility:
- Master’s degree in Microbiology, Biology, Bioinformatics, Computer Science, or a related field.
- Proficiency in English with good communication skills.
- Basic programming skills in Python, Bash, or R.
- Ability to work independently and in a team.
- Enthusiasm, curiosity, and open-mindedness.
- Prior experience in microbiology research and environmental metagenomics is advantageous.
