Post-doctoral Researcher in Soil Microbes, SLU, Uppsala, Sweden

Study in Sweden

Post-doctoral Researcher in Soil Microbes: The Department of Forest Mycology and Plant Pathology at the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU), Uppsala, invites applications for a fixed-term postdoctoral position. The position offers an exciting opportunity to conduct research on the relationships between microclimate and soil microbial communities across various Swedish forest types, contributing to the understanding of soil ecosystem carbon cycling processes.

Post-doctoral Researcher in Soil Microbes and Microclimate Across Forest Types

Designation: Post-doctoral Researcher

Research Area: Soil Microbial Ecology, Microclimate, Forest Dynamics

Location: Department of Forest Mycology and Plant Pathology, Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU), Uppsala, Sweden

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • PhD degree in biology, ecology, bioinformatics, or related fields
  • Proficiency in verbal and written English communication
  • Strong work ethic with excellent organizational and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to conduct primary research in both laboratory and field settings
  • Experience in molecular analysis of soil microbial community composition and functional genes
  • Capability to develop scientific publications for prominent international journals

Job Description: The postdoctoral researcher will investigate the relationships between microclimate and soil microbial communities across contrasting Swedish forest types. This project aims to understand how forest structure influences the macroclimate, forming microclimates that affect soil microbial ecosystems and carbon cycling processes. Responsibilities include conducting molecular analysis of soil microbial community composition, collecting soil samples from established microclimate logger networks, performing lab analyses at SLU’s Department of Forest Mycology and Plant Pathology, and analyzing data in the context of taxonomy and function. The position is fully funded for two years and involves collaboration with Prof. Paul Kardol (Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences, Umeå), Dr. Caroline Greiser (Stockholm University), and other researchers in the Forest Microbiology unit.
