11 MYCOS Scholarship Program: The MYCOS scholarship program, initiated by a consortium of leading scientists and medical professionals at the Innsbruck campus, presents an unparalleled opportunity for 11 PhD candidates to delve into cutting-edge research on antimycotic resistance from a One Health approach. With a focus on infection, immunity, transplantation, and biointeractions, this program aims to tackle critical issues surrounding azole resistance and develop innovative solutions to combat emerging fungal pathogens.
MYCOS Scholarship Program: Advancing Antimycotic Research
Study Area: Antimycotic Resistance from a One Health Approach
Location: Innsbruck, Austria
Eligibility/Qualification: Prospective candidates should hold a master’s degree in a relevant field such as microbiology, immunology, biochemistry, or a related discipline. They should demonstrate a keen interest in antimicrobial resistance research and possess strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Prior experience in molecular biology techniques or clinical research would be advantageous. Proficiency in English is essential.
Description: The MYCOS scholarship program brings together ten members from the Medical University Innsbruck (MUI) and two from the University of Innsbruck (UIBK), comprising a multidisciplinary team of medical doctors and natural scientists. Over a 3-year period, candidates will engage in collaborative research across four key areas:
- ‘Azole Burden’: Investigating the impact of azole exposure on resistance prevalence.
- ‘Clinical Impact of Azole Exposure’: Exploring the effects of azole exposure on mycobiome composition.
- ‘Azole Resistance’: Understanding the molecular basis of resistance for drug discovery.
- ‘Alternative Therapeutics’: Identifying effective antifungals for treating resistant pathogens.
Candidates will have the opportunity to contribute to diverse projects ranging from the identification of azole fungicide origins to the immunomodulatory potential of antimicrobials. Through hands-on research and mentorship from leading experts, scholars will gain invaluable experience in antimicrobial resistance research and make significant contributions to the field.
How to Apply: Interested candidates should submit their applications online via the MYCOS portal. Applications must include a CV, academic transcripts, a statement of purpose outlining research interests and career goals, and contact details for two referees. Shortlisted candidates will be invited for interviews. The initial application process will be double-blind.
Last Date: The call for applications will be open from 8th April 2024, 00:01 CET, until 5th May 2024, 23:59 CET. Don’t miss this opportunity to be a part of groundbreaking research in antimycotic resistance. Apply now and contribute to shaping the future of fungal infection management.
