Eligibility/Qualification:
- A doctoral (PhD) degree in microbiology or a related discipline.
- Strong interest in phage biology and phage-host interactions.
- Previous experience in microbiological methods, molecular biology, and basic bioinformatics.
- Advantageous skills include experience in microscopy, transcriptomics, and/or metabolomics.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills in English.
- Proficiency to teach in English is beneficial.
Job Description:
- Conduct experimental research on phage-host interactions, phage competition, and megaphage-infected cells.
- Contribute to the ongoing ERC-funded project “The Life of Giant Phages” led by Assistant Professor Elina Laanto.
- Characterize giant phage virions, genomes, and life cycles to understand their biology and ecology.
- Collaborate with the research team to expand the giant phage collection and study their ecological implications using culture-based and ‘omics approaches.
- Supervise students, contribute to the project’s development, and potentially develop independent research interests within the project scope.
