Eligibility/Qualification

  • Completed a second-cycle degree or equivalent.
  • At least 240 higher education credits, with 60 credits in the second cycle.
  • At least 60 credits in the second cycle in Plant Systematics, Ecology, or Evolution, including a 15-credit course and a 30-credit project.
  • Strong interest in and experience with quantitative methods and computational approaches in Ecology and Conservation Science.
  • Proficiency in scripting or programming languages (e.g., R or Python).

Job Description

The selected PhD student will work on developing new quantitative methods for plant extinction assessments using digitised herbarium data and species traits, distributions, and threats. The project involves training in Red List assessments, probabilistic modelling, machine learning, and computational approaches in biodiversity science. Supervision will be provided by Associate Professor Aelys Humphreys and an international team of collaborators.
