Postdoctoral Position in Bacterial Symbiosis: Join Dalhousie University’s Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology and Department of Biology in Halifax, N.S., Canada, for an exciting opportunity in investigating marine protist-bacterial symbiosis. This position, funded by the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation, involves collaboration with international researchers from Uppsala University (Sweden) and Caltech (USA). You will work with Dr. Erin Bertrand, Dr. Alastair Simpson, and Dr. Andrew J. Roger to develop innovative methods for studying symbiotic relationships in Anaeramoeba and other marine protists.

Job Description:
The successful candidate will develop and optimize methods for investigating marine protists and their symbiotic bacteria, focusing on Anaeramoeba as a model system. This includes optimizing culture and sample preparation for mass spectrometry-based metabolite profiling of host-symbiont interactions. The position also entails collaborating with international partners, fostering method development, and contributing to the Institute for Comparative Genomics community at Dalhousie University.

Qualifications/Requirements:

  1. Ph.D. degree in Biology, Biochemistry, Microbiology, or related field.
  2. Significant research experience in culturing microorganisms and/or mass spectrometry-based methods for investigating metabolism and cell biology of non-model system microbes.
  3. Strong experience in protistology and/or mixed microbial samples preferred.
  4. Demonstrated interest in learning new approaches, method development, and collaborating with an international team.
  5. Excellent communication skills (both written and oral), ability to work independently and as part of a team.
