Postdoctoral Researcher in Citizen Science: The UrbanNaturePlans+ (UNPplus, UNP+) project is seeking a dedicated Postdoctoral Researcher to contribute to the advancement of citizen science in monitoring biodiversity and enhancing urban greening plans across various European cities. This initiative focuses on creating a systemic, integrated, and inclusive approach to mitigate biodiversity loss and improve urban life quality.

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • PhD in biology, ecology, conservation biology, geography, environmental science, or a relevant research discipline.
  • Experience with ecological fieldwork and statistical data analysis.
  • Familiarity with plant and insect monitoring (especially butterflies), urban biodiversity, and citizen science methods.
  • Experience in interdisciplinary research including interviews, surveys, and focus groups.
  • Proven track record of scientific publications.
  • Experience in collaboration with volunteers, natural history societies, agencies, and museums.
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to work in interdisciplinary and diverse teams.
  • Proficiency in English and German (additional languages are a plus).

Job Description:

  • Develop Citizen Science Initiatives: Implement and expand citizen science activities focused on biodiversity, particularly monitoring butterflies as indicators.
  • Engage and Empower Communities: Maximize the participation of minorities and marginalized groups in citizen science projects.
  • Collaborate on Urban Greening Plans: Contribute to the development and assessment of Urban Greening Plans in cities such as Berlin, Paris, and Barcelona.
  • Promote Health and Well-being: Study and promote the benefits of urban green spaces on community health, well-being, and equity.
  • Support Berlin Urban Nature Pact: Participate in the implementation of the Berlin Urban Nature Pact, fostering sustainable and just urban development.
  • Research Dissemination: Publish findings in scientific journals and present at international conferences.
  • Team Coordination: Supervise project-related activities and coordinate with various stakeholders, including volunteers and research institutes.
