PhD Studentship in Computer Science: The University of Exeter’s Department of Computer Science is inviting applications for four fully-funded PhD studentships, sponsored by the Faculty. These positions are set to commence on 23 September 2024 or as soon as possible thereafter.

  • Leveraging Human Feedback for Safer and More Transparent Reinforcement Learning
  • Enabling Co-creation with Explainable Interactive Optimisation
  • Enhancing Public Safety through Explainable Multi-Modal Video Understanding
  • Learning-Guided Evolutionary Optimisation for Noisy Combinatorial Problems
  • Integrating Multimodal Large Language Models and Knowledge Graphs for Disease Understanding
  • Privacy Preserving Mechanisms for Multimodal Data
  • Design & Development of Mitigation Mechanisms Against Architectural & Microarchitectural Security Vulnerabilities

Innovation Center, Streatham Campus, Exeter

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • Applicants must have obtained, or be about to obtain, a First or Upper Second Class UK Honours degree, or the equivalent qualifications gained outside the UK, in an appropriate area of science or technology.
  • If English is not your first language, you need to meet the language proficiency requirements as per University’s guidance.

Job Description:

  • Engage in cutting-edge research in one of the specified project areas under the supervision of a designated faculty member.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, including experts in machine learning, computer vision, natural language processing, and other fields.
  • Develop novel methodologies, algorithms, and tools.
  • Contribute to academic publications and present research findings at conferences.
  • Participate in the academic activities of the department.
