12 Doctoral Research Positions: Friedrich Schiller University Jena invites applications for 12 Doctoral Research Positions (65%, TV-L E13) as Research Associates within the interdisciplinary Research Training Group 3014 “Photo-polarizable Interfaces and Membranes” (PHINT). The research focuses on utilizing light to induce structural changes at interfaces and membranes, aiming to investigate the relationship between structure, light-driven reactivity, and macroscopic property changes.

The Research Training Group offers PhD positions in diverse topics including but not limited to:
- Lipid membranes with light-controlled ion channels
- Photoswitchable molecules in biomembranes
- 2D molecular photoactive nanomembranes
- Molecularly thin organic membranes
- Poled inorganic glass surfaces
- Metal-organic framework
- Mechanistic insights into light-controlled molecular switching
- Quantum chemical approaches for modeling and simulation
- Theoretical description of light-matter interactions
- Multi-scale multi-layer methods to model light-controlled transport
- Photo-polarizable interfaces in STEM education

Eligibility/Qualification:
- M.Sc. degree or State Examination in Chemistry, Medicine, Physics, or related discipline
- Proficiency in English communication
- Openness towards interdisciplinary and international collaboration
- Willingness to undertake international research stays
Job Description:
Successful candidates will work on their doctoral thesis within the chosen research topic. Active participation in the research and qualification program of the Research Training Group is expected. Additionally, candidates will be part of an international consortium, contributing to interdisciplinary discussions and have opportunities for international research visits.
