The successful candidate will work on the project “Arsenic mobilization by anaerobic methane-oxidizing bacteria in groundwater systems in Hanoi, Vietnam.”

Designation: PhD Student

Research Area: Environmental Microbiology, with a focus on geogenic arsenic (As) contamination in groundwater systems.

Location: University of Stuttgart, ISWA – Institute of Sanitary Engineering, Water Quality, and Solid Waste Management, Stuttgart, Germany.

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • Applicants should possess a solid background in environmental microbiology and molecular ecology.
  • Experience with anaerobic cultivation and molecular biological techniques is desirable.
  • Proficiency in English language and good computer skills are necessary.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, excellent management and communication skills, and high motivation for interdisciplinary research are essential.

Job Description:
The selected candidate will conduct research to identify the key players and active pathways that influence the fate of arsenic mobilization in groundwater systems in the Red River Delta, Hanoi (Vietnam). This will involve field sampling, molecular biological and bioinformatic analyses of microbial community composition, metagenomics potential, and gene expression patterns. The project is funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG).

How to Apply:
Interested candidates are encouraged to submit their applications, including a CV, motivation letter, an overview of past research methods, and contact information of academic references before the application deadline.
