PhD Position in Chemical Biology: The Frei Research Group at ETH Zurich is seeking a highly motivated doctoral researcher to join their team in developing innovative chemigenetic tools for advanced fluorescence microscopy. Eligibility/Qualification
Candidates should possess:
- A MSc degree in Chemistry, Chemical Biology, Biochemistry, or a closely related discipline
- Proficiency in English and strong communication skills
- A strong motivation and curiosity for research in Chemical Biology
- The ability to work in a multidisciplinary and multicultural environment
- Prior experience in at least one of the following areas:
- Synthetic chemistry
- Fluorophore chemistry
- Molecular biology
- Protein engineering
- Cell biology
- Fluorescence microscopy
Job Description
The PhD position involves:
- Developing chemigenetic tools that integrate synthetic fluorophores with genetically encodable components such as self-labeling protein tags
- Application of these tools in cell biology
- Engaging in synthetic chemistry and/or protein engineering as well as cell biology and fluorescence microscopy
- Start date from January 2025 onwards or earlier upon agreement
