Postdoctoral Associate – Metabolic Science: A Postdoctoral Research Associate position is available within Dr. Daniel Fazakerley’s group at the Institute of Metabolic Science. This role involves leading studies to investigate novel genes regulating insulin-stimulated glucose transport in adipose and muscle tissue as part of a UKRI/MRC-funded project. The successful candidate will use cutting-edge molecular and cell biology techniques to provide new insight into the control of insulin sensitivity in fat and muscle cells.

The position involves investigating mechanisms by which insulin signaling regulates glucose transport in adipose and muscle tissue and understanding how this process is affected in metabolic disease.

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • Ph.D. in a relevant field (i.e. cell biology, biochemistry, metabolism)
  • Strong publication record demonstrating scientific rigor and productivity
  • Skills in working independently to solve experimental problems
  • Self-motivated, creative, and curious
  • Excellent record-keeping, organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Good working knowledge of insulin signaling and/or protein trafficking processes (advantageous)
  • Eligibility for a Home Office Personal License

Job Description:
The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Planning and designing experiments based on published literature
  • Collecting and analyzing data
  • Ensuring research compliance with local policies and legal requirements
  • Applying a broad range of techniques to pursue research objectives
  • Contributing to laboratory-wide discussions
  • Presenting scientific work at internal and external seminars and meetings
  • Drafting scientific papers and contributing to research for publication
  • Assisting in training students and other laboratory members
  • Identifying funding sources to support future work and career development opportunities
