Postdoctoral Researcher in CO₂ Conversion: The Interdisciplinary Research Center for Hydrogen Technologies and Carbon Management (IRC-HTCM) at King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals (KFUPM) is seeking a highly motivated and skilled Postdoctoral Researcher to join our team. The successful candidate will focus on Density Functional Theory (DFT) calculations and Molecular Dynamics (MD) simulations to investigate materials’ properties and the CO₂ conversion mechanism. This research aligns with our innovation goal to develop technologies for converting CO₂ into value-added chemicals by 2030.

King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals (KFUPM), Dhahran, Saudi Arabia

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • Ph.D. in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field.
  • Strong background in computational simulation, particularly in heterogeneous or electrochemical catalysis.
  • Experience with DFT, MD simulation, VASP simulation software, NEB calculation, Atomic Simulation Environment (ASE) documentation.
  • Proficiency in Python, C++, and Machine Learning approaches.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify and overcome technical barriers in large-scale Electrochemical CO₂ conversion infrastructures.
  • Strong track record of leading authorship in peer-reviewed publications.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience in installing and compiling various computational and visualization software.

Job Description:

  • Conduct DFT calculations and MD simulations to study materials’ properties and CO₂ conversion mechanisms.
  • Collaborate with internal and external experimental groups to integrate findings and push forward the research agenda.
  • Develop and implement innovative research ideas that contribute to overcoming technical barriers in CO₂ conversion.
  • Publish research findings in high-impact, peer-reviewed journals.
  • Participate actively in team meetings and contribute to the dynamic research environment at IRC-HTCM.
