Eligibility / Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
- Education: Ph.D. in Climate Science, Atmospheric Science, Environmental/Chemical/Mechanical Engineering, Environmental Science, Physics, Chemistry, or a related field.
- Experience: Minimum of 3 years of post-PhD or industrial research experience in climate modeling and analysis.
- Technical Skills:
- Demonstrated expertise in regional climate modeling and bias-correction techniques.
- Strong programming proficiency (e.g., Python, R, MATLAB, NCL) for data analysis, model execution, and High-Performance Computing (HPC).
- Research Output: Proven track record of peer-reviewed publications in reputable international journals.
- Communication: Strong communication skills with an ability to present research to academic audiences and engage with non-technical stakeholders or policymakers.
Preferred / Additional Assets
- Research experience specifically centered on arid, hyper-arid, or extreme climate regions.
- Track record of securing competitive external research grants/funding and managing projects.
- Background in climate policy development and public risk engagement.
Job Description & Responsibilities
- Modeling & Simulation: Develop, optimize, and execute high-resolution regional climate model simulations (e.g., using WRF and related systems).
- Impact Analysis: Conduct detailed assessments of climate change impacts on critical infrastructure, urban living conditions, energy systems, and water security in Qatar and the Middle East.
- Adaptation & Policy Formulation: Formulate data-driven adaptation recommendations and work alongside governmental, regulatory, and industrial entities to turn findings into actionable mitigation strategies.
- Scientific Output: Publish novel research findings in leading peer-reviewed journals and deliver presentations at key international scientific conferences.
- Grant Acquisition: Lead or contribute to competitive regional and international funding proposals.
- Mentorship: Supervise and mentor postgraduate students, postdoctoral researchers, and technical staff within QEERI’s interdisciplinary research environment.
