PhD Position in Immunology: The Institute of Molecular Medicine and Experimental Immunology (IMMEI) at the Medical Faculty Campus of Bonn University Clinic invites applications for a PhD position in Immunology. This role is embedded within the DFG-funded SFB TRR259, a collaborative research consortium involving institutions in Bonn, Düsseldorf, and Cologne that focuses on the mechanisms underlying aortic diseases.

Designation:
PhD Position in Immunology (TVL13/65%)

Research Area:
Immunology, with a focus on the role of immune cells and the impact of the microbiome in aortic valve stenosis (AS), a progressive inflammatory disease with serious cardiovascular complications.

Institute of Molecular Medicine and Experimental Immunology, University Clinic Bonn, Venusberg Campus 1, 53127 Bonn, Germany

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • Candidates must hold a Ph.D. or an M.Sc. in Biology, Immunology, Molecular Biology, or related fields with top scores.
  • Prior experience in immunological research using mouse models is preferred.
  • Excellent written and spoken English skills are mandatory.
  • A high level of motivation and passion for scientific research is essential.

Job Description:
The PhD candidate will work within an interdisciplinary research environment and will be co-supervised by the Department of Anesthesiology and Intensive Care Medicine of the University Hospital Bonn. The research will involve using advanced technologies such as single-cell RNA sequencing, flow-cytometry, immunohistology, metabolomics, animal models, and surgical techniques to study immune cell roles in aortic valve stenosis. The aim is to translate research findings into potential novel therapies.
